HARARE – Zimbabwe is hosting cricket’s Over-60s Africa Cup starting this weekend until 10 October at Old Georgians Sports Club and Sunrise Sports Club in Harare featuring four teams.

The hosts Zimbabwe will be joined in the 45-over competition by South Africa as well as Cavaliers A and Cavaliers B, the last two teams being made up of “Rest of the World” players.

Under the auspices of the Zimbabwe Masters Cricket Association, the Zimbabwean 60s side is captained by Greg McDonald (pictured, holding the SA Masters trophy).

The International Masters League, in which the Africa Cup falls under, is a cricket tournament featuring players who have retired or are close to retirement from the professional game. This is the first time Zimbabwe is hosting this event.

Zimbabwe have previously participated at World Masters tournaments in Indian city Chennai and Cape Town and were winners of the South Africa Masters Over-60s tournament in Cape Town early this year in March.

The opening ceremony of the Over-60s Africa Cup is being staged this Saturday at Old Georgians with matches, all beginning at 9am, starting on Sunday.

The highlight of the tournament will be he big clash between Zimbabwe and South Africa on Wednesday.

The closing ceremony will be held at Sunrise Sports Club in Belvedere on Thursday evening, where a special presentation of cricket kits will be made to the Grassroots Cricket initiative.

Away from the cricket, the teams will also engage in wildlife viewing tours, golf at Royal Harare Golf Club and a visit to Victoria Falls.
