HARARE – Herbert Mensah, the president of Rugby Africa, will now serve a full term as chairman of the global regions of the sport’s global governing body, World Rugby.
Previously, the head of the regions – Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas – used to rotate.
Until a decision was made at a Council meeting in London on Thursday

.
A Council member told SportsCast: “As the chairman of the regions, you normally rotate every year, but it was decided by members of the regions that Mr Mensah should no longer rotate, but sit there for the full four-year term. So that had to be voted by Council, and it was passed.”
In a statement to stakeholders, Mensah expressed his elation following the choice of Africa to lead the development of the sport at the world stage:
“Proudly represented!
“Incredible week. Highlight was seeing real leadership in action. Class with humility personified.
“Many good people became better.
“Our tomorrows depend on brave men and women standing tall today and understanding that not only don’t we have to agree, but that we can agree to disagree and still work together.
“We must understand that others have skills we don’t have, but we still need to work together to make things better for all!
“I am exhausted but stimulated.
“Between, there is something so beautiful in good behaviour and manners. Hmmm, if your mother didn’t teach it…learn.”
The World Rugby Council met in London today to discuss:
