HARARE – Seven years ago in the Japanese island of Okinawa, Godwin “Jaws” Murambiwa was promoted to

6th Dan Black Belt in Shorin Ryu karate, by 10th Dan Headmaster Shigemitsu Tamae.

He has now been promoted to 7th Dan in Shorin Ryu Karate.

Murambiwa, the former Zimbabwe rugby team coach, earned the title Kyoshi.

Murambiwa’s promotion was done through Seidokan Karate and Kubudo Renmei President Ron Nix (9th Dan) recently in Okinawa.

The respected rugby coach and keen karateka, who has been training martial arts continuously since the early 80s, has also gained a 5th Dan promotion (Purple Belt) and title Shihan in Aikijijutsu in Ipswich in October 2024, conferred by his teachers Brian Rogers (9th Dan) and Richard Pearman (9th Dan).

Seidokan Shorin Ryu Karate is an Okinawan Karate which has been taught in Okinawa and in Africa by the late Headmaster Shian Toma. Unlike many masters from the early 1920s, the Toma Headmaster believed in teaching the arts taught by his masters to “foreigners” openly and as such it is one of the biggest style in Zimbabwe.

In the United States and Europe and other parts of the world, you will find Seidokan Karate practitioners.
