‘Andy has always been a pathfinder’: Taibu lauds mentor Flower after IPL glory

HARARE –Tatenda Taibu has praised the coaching methods of his compatriot and mentor Andy Flower after the Zimbabwean coach guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Tuesday.

Taibu, who was Zimbabwe’s first black captain, was groomed as the African team’s heir-apparent wicket-keeper under the legendary gloves-man Flower, and the two developed a strong bond.

Now a coach, 42-year-old Taibu has also become a big admirer of Flower’s coaching.

“Andy has always been a pathfinder and he has shown that again,” Taibu told SportsCast on Tuesday.

“I’m so happy for him. Andy has always been a trailblazer, and once again, he’s proven that true pioneers never rest. His ability to lead by example continues to inspire those around him.”

RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in the final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to shed their underachiever tag.

RCB had another Zimbabwean in their squad, fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, who was signed as a back-up for the final stages of the tournament. Despite not getting any game-time, Taibu believes the gangly pacer learnt a great deal from being in the set-up.

“Of course, it’s all valuable experience for Blessing, the feeling of winning is important and knowing how to win finals even more,” said Taibu.
